As Bachman-Turner Overdrive prepares to light up the Majestic Theatre in Texas this month, we caught up with Tal Bachman—vocalist, guitarist, and son of rock legend Randy Bachman—to talk about what’s new in the iconic band’s world and what fans can expect from their upcoming performance.

TAL BACHMAN INTERVIEW:
Q: Tal, thanks for taking the time to chat! BTO has such a legendary history. What’s new and exciting happening with the band right now?
Tal Bachman:Thank you! It’s always great to reconnect with the fans. Right now, we’re really focused on bringing fresh energy to our classic sound. We’ve been working on some new arrangements and even a few new songs that stay true to that gritty, feel-good rock vibe BTO is known for—but with a contemporary twist. We feel it’s important to honor our legacy while also keeping things exciting and relevant for longtime fans and new listeners alike.

Q: That’s fantastic to hear. Can you share a bit about the new material? Will it feature in your upcoming Texas show?
Tal Bachman: We’re really proud of the new stuff—it’s got that trademark BTO power, but with some interesting lyrical themes and modern production. While the Majestic Theatre show will definitely highlight our greatest hits like “Takin’ Care of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” we’re planning to debut a couple of new tracks live. It’s our way of saying thank you to the fans for their incredible support through the years.

Q: Speaking of the show, what can attendees expect at the Majestic Theatre in Texas?
Tal Bachman: The Majestic is such an incredible venue with a real historic vibe—it’s a perfect spot for a band like us. We aim to deliver an electrifying performance with tight musicianship, engaging storytelling, and of course, plenty of moments for the crowd to sing along and have fun. We want to create a night where everyone feels the spirit of rock ’n’ roll and walks away feeling energized.
Q: How has being part of this musical legacy influenced your perspective as a performer and songwriter?
Tal Bachman: Growing up surrounded by music royalty—but also witnessing the highs and lows of the business—has been a profound influence. It’s taught me respect for the craft and the importance of authenticity. Every time we get on stage, it’s about connecting with people through music. That legacy inspires me to keep pushing forward creatively while honoring where the band started.

Q: Looking beyond the Texas show, what’s next for Bachman-Turner Overdrive?
Tal Bachman: We’re planning a few more tour dates both in the U.S. and Canada, along with studio time to continue developing new material. The goal is to keep the momentum going—bringing classic rock to new audiences and reminding longtime fans why BTO still rocks hard after all these years.
Q: Are there any unfinished or unreleased tracks from back in the day that might see the light soon?
Tal Bachman: Let me ask my dad, he is here in the car with me ( Asking Randy Bachman the question)...
Randy Bachman: There are about four or five songs, some of them are quite ready to come out. What I am relistening to right now , and I am gonna be remixing, is BTO Live In Japan at Budokan in 1976. We did three night's there. I just got these back and I am listening to them all. It will be double-vinyl and with that, I'm going to put out an extra album of BTO stuff that I did not have room for on other albums. Back in those days, you could only put about 22 minutes of music per side so there was always a couple of songs that didn't fit. There will be a mixture of old BTO and new stuff that no one has ever heard.
Q: Any final message you’d like to share with fans attending the Majestic Theatre show?
Tal Bachman: Just a huge thank you. We couldn’t do this without your passion and support. Come ready to have a great time, sing loud, and celebrate a legacy that keeps evolving. Can’t wait to see you there!
